Overview: North Coast Wind Energy Corp. is proposing to construct and operate the Banks Island North Wind Energy Project, located on the north end of Banks Island, British Columbia. The proposed Project expects to generate 700 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable wind energy.
Major Project Components: The Banks Island North Wind Energy Project will include the following components:
- Approximately 250 to 350 2.0 to 2.5-MW turbines
- Access roads on Banks Island
- Substation
- Approximately 118 km of transmission line that will interconnect to an existing British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) transmission line (BCTC 2L101) south of the Skeena River.
Company Overview: North Coast Wind Energy Corp. is an independent power producer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company is a joint venture between Katabatic Power Corp., a British Columbia company, which focuses on producing clean, renewable energy to meet the increasing demand for electricity in BC and North America, and Deutsche Bank AG.
Project Site: The proposed Project will be located on approximately 14,000 hectares of Crown Land on the northern end of Banks Island on BC's north coast, approximately 90 km south of Prince Rupert. Only about 1% of the approximately 14,000 hectares will be used by the major components of the Project.
Consultation Process: Banks Island North Wind Energy Project is committed to a comprehensive consultation program that will build strong relationships with community partners and ensure that all stakeholders are informed of Project developments in a timely manner.
